Reaction to #TSGBFK: “A fully deserved victory”

The players and coach react to TSG's 3-1 victory over Basaksehir Istanbul in the Europa League.

Julian Nagelsmann: I’m very proud. We played really well tonight. We defended more aggressively than we did against Augsburg, and only really allowed two clear cut chances. It was a fully deserved victory. In the first half, we put in some good crosses from the flanks, but we didn’t have enough players in the box. We did much better in that regard for Amiri’s goal. We were very strong on the ball I thought. That was the key. If we play like we did tonight in our next three Europa League games, we will win them all.

Benjamin Hübner: I’m really satisfied with how the game went for us. The opener came at a crucial time, and then we played well enough to see out the result. It feels really good that I was able to help the team out by scoring the header like I did. I hope that it wasn’t just a stroke of luck and that there’s more to come. I think we showed tonight that we belong in Europe. We’re going to give our all to make it out of this group.

Alexander Rosen: We put in a good performance tonight. After we scored the opener, we played really well. We’re taking this competition very seriously and we want to progress as far as we can. We’ve showed this season that we have the quality to win in Europe, so it feels great to have finally been able to do that.

Kerem Demirbay: I’m happy that we showed everyone we can play at the European level tonight. We wanted to put down a marker, and I think that we did that. We were outstanding off the ball today, and did well in the 50-50 challenges – that was very important. The second goal came at just the right moment. I played well tonight and managed to get two assists, but you can always do better I think.

Mark Uth: We had to win today so it was great to be able to do that and keep all three points. The way we pressed in defense was the key tonight. The third goal was perhaps the best example of that. Hopefully we can take this kind of performance into the Bundesliga and the next few Europa League games. We’ve got to win a minimum of two games in my opinion to reach the knockout stages. We’ll do all we can to achieve that.
