Baumann saves and Demirbay penalty help TSG draw in Wolfsburg

Hoffenheim are back in fourth. TSG and VfL Wolfsburg shared the spoils on Sunday evening after a 1-1 draw in the Volkswagen arena. Oliver Baumann made a string of fine saves to keep the visitors in the game, but it wasn’t quite enough as Wolfsburg headed in a late equaliser to cancel out Karem Demirbay’s second-half penalty.

SQUAD AND TACTICS

Just three days after taking to the pitch in the Europa League against Besaksehir, Julian Nagelsmann’s team contested the final game of Matchday 9 against the Wolves. The game came too soon for Nadiem Amiri and Dennis Geiger, who were both unavailable for selection. Andrej Kramaric and Florian Grillitsch came in as replacements. Steven Zuber also replaced Nico Schulz in the starting XI. These were the only changes from the Europa League game.

As ever, Oliver Baumann started in goal. Zuber joined Hübner, Posch and Kaderabek at the back, with captain Kevin Vogt sitting in front of the defence. Grillitsch and Demirbay formed the rest of the midfield, as Andrej Kramaric, Mark Uth and Sandro Wagner started up front.
Kevin Akpoguma was given his Bundesliga debut after the break, coming on for Stefan Posch.

MOMENT OF THE MATCH

So many to mention, but the plaudits must go to TSG goalkeeper Oli Baumann. Fingertips, hands, legs or knee, the big man was parrying everything out there today. It was a stunning performance buy our number one and he was unbeatable right up until the last second.

STAT OF THE DAY: 25

It was a special day for our young number 25 Kevin Akpoguma. After injuring a vertebra in his neck in April , the 22-year-old was finally able to celebrate his TSG and Bundesliga debut.
