Still undefeated – TSG draw against Hertha

TSG Hoffenheim have been unable to win for the first time at home this 2017/18 Bundesliga season on Matchday 4. After three points against Bremen and Bayern, the match against Hertha Berlin in the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena finished 1-1. Sandro Wagner put TSG into the lead shortly before the break but Alexander Esswein scored the equaliser.

Line-up and formation

Julian Nagelsmann made four changes to the starting XI who played in the Europa League fixture on Thursday as Benjamin Hübner, Dennis Geiger, Steven Zuber and Nadiem Amiri came into the squad. Alongside the four new faces were: Oliver Baumann, Pavel Kaderabek, Havard Nordtveit, Kerem Demirbay, Kevin Vogt, Andrej Kramaric and Sandro Wagner.

Tactically, TSG started as usual in a 3-5-2 with a back three of Nordtveit, Vogt and Hübner. The five in midfield included wingabcks of Zuber and Kaderabek with Geiger, Demirbay and Amiri in the centre of the park. In attack, Kramaric and Wagner started together.

On the hour mark, Nagelsmann made his first change as Wagner was replaced by Uth in a like-for-like swap. Towards the end, Nico Schulz and Felix Passlack came on in place of Zuber and Kaderabek. Nagelsmann hoped to increase the pace of the game and get the ball into wide areas against a Hertha side who sat deep but was unable to create the desired effect.

The summary of the match

The last half an hour was the same situation over and over. TSG had the ball and tried to get forward but Hertha had 9 or 10 players in their own penalty area in a 5-4-1 formation. No getting through for Hoffenheim.

The number of the match: 0

After the fourth Bundesliga matchday, TSG still have the number 0 next to their number of losses this season. TSG have currently no losses, two wins and two draws which is a start that Hoffenheim can certainly be happy about.
