#RWETSG match reaction: "A typical cup tie"

Here’s what the protagonists had to say after TSG beat Rot-Weiß Erfurt 1-0 in the opening round of the DFB Cup.

Julian Nagelsmann: It was a typical cup tie. It was a tricky game for us and it came at a bad time for us. It was Erfurt’s game of the year and they came into it a lot freer and you could see that out there. Kerem Demirbay should have scored after four minutes – if he takes that chance it’s a totally different game. Our best passage of play was in the 10 minutes after the break. We scored in that period but needed to get another to make it comfortable. Erfurt played well after falling behind and had opportunities to get back on level terms. They deserve a lot of credit.

Stefan Krämer: Congratulations to TSG on reaching the second round. We did everything we set out to do well, especially defensively. We were disciplined, covered a lot of ground and shut them down well. It was important that we didn’t let them settle and I think we managed that today. The game was an excellent physical test, one that will do us the world of good ahead of the league campaign.

Gregor Kobel: Erfurt made life tough for us today. They played just one forward and then sat back. We didn’t manage to cope with this in the first half and didn’t create too many chances. After we scored things opened up a bit more. Ultimately, I would say we deserved to win the game. I am happy that I featured today and that we won the game. I wasn’t nervous – it wasn’t my first time between the sticks, after all.

Nadiem Amiri: I’m not really sure what happened as far as the goal is concerned. I need to look at it again. I am relieved that we won and am happy that we reached the second round. It was a tough game. We now need to regenerate well ahead of the Liverpool game.
