Pavel Kaderabek: "We want to win our last two"
Have you looked back over the defeat in Dortmund?
Pavel Kaderabek: Yes, the team and I have spent a long time analysing it because it was such an important match. We played well, perhaps very well. Unfortunately it ended in defeat for us, but now we’re turning our full attention to Bremen.
What do you make of Werder?
Kaderabek: They have a very strong team and have had a great second half to the season. They’ve been one of the best teams in the league in 2017. But we’re playing well as well and have a lot of confidence. Therefore, we want to go there and win and I think we have the quality to be able to do that.
You were able to play your second match from the start in Dortmund since returning from a long injury lay-off. How are you feeling?
Kaderabek: Physically I’m fine and feel good; quite fresh even at the end of this long season. I played very well against Frankfurt, but didn’t play so well against Dortmund. I wasn’t happy with my performance. But that’s football and I want to do better against Bremen.
You still have a chance of finishing third. What would that mean to you?
Kaderabek: We want to do that and still have a chance. We want to win in Bremen and against Augsburg and then we’ll have to see how Dortmund do. They have the same opponents. If you’d have said to us at the start of the season that we’d finish fourth, then we’d all have taken it. But now we want to finish third. That would the optimum.
You’ve also become a father over the course of this season. That would’ve been a private highlight. How has that affected your football?
Kaderabek: Becoming a father has helped me enormously on the pitch. I’m a lot calmer before matches and I don’t get nervous anymore. There are more important things than football and thinking about that calms me and gives me energy. The win against Bayern was definitely a highlight, even if I didn’t play. But it’s hard to pick out a particular game. In my opinion, apart from the away game against Leipzig, we’ve been the better team in every match we’ve played this season.
There are two games to go. What are you planning to do with your family over the summer?
Kaderabek: I’ll be joining up with my national team after my last game with Hoffenheim and that’ll last until 10th June. Therefore, I’ll probably re-join Hoffenheim pre-season probably slightly later than some of the guys. I’m also getting married in the summer. I come from Prague and she comes from Ostrau – so we’re getting married in a small place in the middle. It takes approximately four hours to drive between the two cities. Then we’ll stay in the Czech Republic for a while because our daughter is still too young to fly. I’ll recover and enjoy myself and make sure I’m fully fit for next season.
