Löw calls cup Demirbay and Wagner

“To be called up for my country is a huge honour for me,” said Kerem Demirbay after receiving a phone call with the good news. “I couldn’t quite believe it at first when the phone rang,” he said, describing the moment that Joachim Löw informed him of his decision. However this “surprise” is just further confirmation that the 23-year-old midfielder has made the right decisions in his career. “Moving to TSG was exactly the right step,” Demirbay stressed once again. “I’ve developed hugely over the last year and Julian Nagelsmann has helped me bring my strengths to the team. To now be called up for the Germany national team is absolutely amazing.”

To now be called up for the Germany national team is absolutely amazing.”

TSG director of football Alexander Rosen has always spoken extremely highly of the midfielder since he signed for the club. “Kerem works very hard and has loads of ideas going forward. He has loads of determination to score goals.” And ten months later, he added, “Kerem has continued his development throughout his first full year in the Bundesliga and has exceeded the expectations we had of him. We believe that he still has huge potential. The fact that he has been called up to the national team is a reward for his and our hard work.”

Wagner keeps on scoring…

Sandro Wagner also moved to TSG last summer. The 29-year-old striker, who scored 14 goals at SV Darmstadt 98 last season, has continued where he left off with the “Lillies”. He has been extremely prolific in front of goal, especially in the first half of the season. “Sandro scored a lot of very important goals, particularly at the start of the year and really has a winning mentality. He causes problems for defenders on the pitch and that is a good thing because he creates space for his teammates. He’s listened and taken in a lot right from the start and improved his passing and movement,” said Julian Nagelsmann on the leading figure.

Alexander Rosen also only had positive things to say on Wagner. “Sandro is a big character who divides opinion through the way he plays. At TSG he has done nothing but build on the work he started at Darmstadt. We are all delighted that we were able to sign him in the summer. His nomination for the Germany national team is a result of his consistently strong performances over the past two seasons.” The forward has twelve goals and two assists in 32 games for TSG, a record which speaks for itself. “To play for my country has always been a dream of mine. I will bring my qualities to the national team and am really looking forward to my team with the squad,” explained Wagner after receiving his first ever call-up.

Toljan & Amiri in the U21s

Furthermore Löw has also called up Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Süle. Both will be in action on Saturday against FC Augsburg in their final match for TSG before they move to FC Bayern Munich. Having four players from Hoffenheim in international action highlights how strong this season has been for the club and a victory over Augsburg could mean a third-placed finish should Dortmund drop points at Werder Bremen. Finishing fourth would nevertheless be Hoffe’s best ever position in the Bundesliga after a season that will go down in the club’s history.

Stefan Kuntz also revealed his squad for the U21 European Championships in Frankfurt. The continent’s showdown will be held from 16th to 30th June in Poland and two Hoffenheim players will be with them, namely Jeremy Toljan and Nadiem Amiri. The team will take on the Czech Republic, Denmark and Italy.
