Baumann: “We didn’t implement our game plan today”

What the players and managers had to say after the 2-1 defeat to HSV.

Julian Nagelsmann: HSV deserved to win. We played well to start off with, and towards the end, but ultimately we underestimated how emotionally our opponents would play. We didn’t put enough focus on our tactics and therefore deserved to lose. However, it’s nothing out of the ordinary to lose a game.

Markus Gisdol: A great day for us, because we had to play against an unbelievably strong opponent. I have a lot of respect for what they’ve managed to achieve in the past few weeks, but we knew we could do it if we gave it our all. That’s exactly what we did, right up until the full-time whistle was blown. The team did fantastic today, and deserved to win. I’m very happy, the win does us a lot of good.

Oliver Baumann: We didn’t implement our game plan today. Our tactics were only implemented in part out on the pitch. I don’t really know what to say. We wanted to press a lot better than we did, but we were unsuccessful. Perhaps we were lacking a bit of passion today too.

Sebastian Rudy: We made too many mistakes today and lost as a consequence. We’ll analyse it, and examine the mistakes. We’ll work on it and see if we can perform better against Gladbach. It wasn’t a great game from either team, but HSV were a bit more aggressive.

Lukas Rupp: I’m fit and happy to be back out there, even if I’m not quite 100% yet, but it was nice. We competed well and won a lot of challenges, but we weren’t very fresh. We have to put the game behind us and show a better performance against Gladbach.
