Sebastian Rudy - Games to remember

Sebastian Rudy made his 200th appearance for TSG against Schalke. He takes a look back over those 200 games, not at all of them of them, but at three in particular. Three special matches which stick in the memory…

5th February 2011 – First TSG goal

TSG HOFFENHEIM - 1. FC KAISERSLAUTERN

Sebastian Rudy - "I started the match and we took the lead early on through Gylfi Sigurdsson. Just before half-time there was a free-kick. I crossed the ball in from the touchline and nobody touched it – my first goal for TSG was a total freak. In the second half, Kaiserslautern scored twice and equalised before Vedo made it 3-2 to us. Therefore, I could celebrate the goal a lot more than if we had drawn the match.”

18th May 2013 – The miracle in Dortmund

BORUSSIA DORTMUND - TSG HOFFENHEIM

Sebastian Rudy - "This game remains unforgettable. We had to win on the last day in Dortmund to stand any chance of staying in the division. We also needed other results to go our way. We went behind early to a Dortmund side that was about to play in the Champions League final against Bayern. Sali scored two penalties, Weidenfeller was sent off, it was all so crazy. Then Schmelzer scored in the last minute and we were down. There was a kerfuffle and I didn’t realise what had happened. I saw the protests and the goal was disallowed. We won the match, played in the relegation play-off and eventually stayed up. What happened that day was a miracle.”

28th February 2016 – Birthday surprise

BORUSSIA DORTMUND - TSG HOFFENHEIM

Sebastian Rudy - "This was definitely the craziest birthday I’ve ever had. Julian Nagelsmann had not long been our trainer and we were playing Dortmund away. I put us into the lead after about 20 minutes. That wasn’t a bad birthday present, but in the second half I fouled Aubameyang on a Dortmund counter-attack. Because I had come from behind I received a red rather than a yellow card and had to leave the field. Incredible, that wasn’t so good. The boys played amazingly and fought really hard but BVB scored three late goals and took the win. We lost the game and my birthday hadn’t gone to plan.”
