Ingolstadt Match Reaction

Julian Nagelsmann: In the first 60 minutes, we had problems getting into the game. It was a hectic match and not great quality. The first half wasn’t what I had expected. We were lacklustre and Ingolstadt were good in the first half. After the break, the quick equaliser from Adam was, of course, very important. Then we had moments in the match that we had imagined which came about through pressing. We always had four or five players in the opposition’s penalty area and that’s difficult to defend. In the last 20 minutes, we played some very good football and we deserved to win in the end, even once the opponent had dropped off a little bit.

Maik Walpurgis: We must congratulate TSG on a good performance. We played well for the first 75 minutes today and we were on a par with them. We lost concentration for five minutes and suffered the consequences as we let them turn the game around. That leaves a bitter taste for us. We played a good game, but didn’t defend well enough at the end. We knew that Hoffenheim would play more precisely towards the end, but we didn’t carry out our plan when they did.

Benjamin Hübner: My goal was quite special form e, because it’s my first goal for TSG in the Bundesliga. I thought that Ingolstadt wouldn’t make it easy for us. As the game went on, we found ways to overcome their pressing and get around them to score a goal.

Andrej Kramaric: I gave it my best and wanted to help the team in a difficult situation. I knew that it would be a difficult game and it turned out that way. We are happy that we were able to come back after Ingolstadt’s second goal. We can play better like we did in the last 20 minutes. One of our strengths is our ability to come back during a game. Sometimes we don’t show everything that we’re capable of, but it’s good that me managed to turn the game around.

Adam Szalai: I was very pleased that the coach gave me the opportunity to start the match today. I think that was obvious not just through my two goals, but through my enthusiasm on the pitch today. It was a strange game, but I think the better team won. Ingolstadt were strong at set pieces, but we deserved the victory today.
