Freiburg match reaction

Everything the managers and players had to say following the 1-1 against Freiburg.

Julian Nagelsmann: It was an interesting game as expected. We started off well in the first ten minutes. We were dominant and had two very good chances. Julian Schuster’s effort was denied short of the goal-line and then Schwolow got a hand to stop the ball which was headed for the corner. I had already started to celebrate on the pitch. The second half was very open to begin with, but the penalty was unfortunate. We did well to come back from it though. The problem was that we weren’t finishing in the penalty area, most of our shots came from outside it. Overall we played a good game away from home.

Christian Streich: Hoffenheim started off with a 4-3-3. That was great because we considered playing that formation as well throughout the whole week, but then we decided on something else. Hoffenheim were the better team, and could have taken the lead. After the break it was good, I was happy as we were compact defensively for the most part. Our build-up play was always improving throughout the game, and the team was super in working together to overcome a stronger opponent. Hoffenheim are one of the top four teams in the league for me.

Sebastian Rudy: We played a good game and earned the point. But we could have won here today, and for that reason I’m not completely happy. Freiburg are a good team but we were better. I wanted three points, but we can and must live with one.

Kevin Vogt: I’m mostly annoyed at myself about the penalty, but things like that can always happen. I’ll forget about it and move on to looking ahead to next week. Overall, we dominated the game. We implemented our plan well on the pitch, but unfortunately we were unable to convert that into three points today.

Andrej Kramaric: I don’t really know what to say. I’m not very happy. We played a good game but it didn’t suffice. I struck the ball perfectly for the goal. I hoped we could turn the game around after it was 1-1, but it didn’t happen. We have to take further steps so we can win games like these in the future.

Niklas Süle: We brought a lot of what we prepared in practice on to the pitch, but for that reason I’m not happy with the point. We forced Freiburg into making a lot of errors, but we couldn’t capitalise on them. We could have gotten more from today.

Alexander Schwolow: In the first half I had a bit more to do, but we defended better after the break. Apart from the goal there wasn’t much. Respect, he did well. Maybe we left him too much space, but he hit the ball perfectly. We have to simply move on from that.
