TSG score four in Mainz thrashing

TSG Hoffenheim celebrated a superb 4-0 win in their first home match of 2017 against FSV Mainz 05. Mark Uth put Julian Nagelsmann’s team in front within five minutes, before the decisive goals came later in the second half from Marco Terrazzino and Adam Szalai. The win extended TSG’s unbeaten record at home to ten games.

Line-up and tactics:

Who would replace the suspended Sandro Wagner? The answer was made clear by manager Julian Nagelsmann during the pre-match press conference: “Our attack isn’t a house of cards that just falls away without him,” told the TSG coach. In short, Mark Uth returns to the starting XI alongside Andrej Kramaric up front.

The only concern in the build-up to the match was Kevin Vogt. Our number 22 started the week with a bad headache following his collision with Oliver Baumann during the Leipzig match, but was able to rejoin team training on Wednesday. He forms a back three alongside Benjamin Hübner and Niklas Süle.

The rest of the starting XI includes: Oliver Baumann in goal, Sebastian Rudy, Kerem Demirbay and Nadiem Amiri in the middle, with Kaderabek and Steven Zuber on the wings.

Andrej Kramaric was replaced by Adam Szalai in the 68th minute, before goalscorer Uth made way for Marco Terrazzino in the 75th. The final change for TSG came in the 83rd when Marco Terrazzino replaced Ermin Bicakcic.

Moment of the Match:

Super subs: two changes, two goalscorers, three goals. At 1-0, Julian Nagelsmann introduced Marco Terrazzino and what an impact it had. The number 23 was well-placed to finish the rebound from Demirbay’s free kick, before assisting fellow substitute Szalai moments later. And if that wasn’t enough, Szalai would go on to grab a brace just minutes later to wrap up the 4-0 win.

Number of the Match:

A stat for any Hoffenheim fan to be proud of: TSG have now gone ten games without losing at home - a club record.
