Kaderabek: "We have to win"

Having only missed one game so far this season, Pavel Kaderabek is a key component of the TSG first-team. The 24-year-old right-back speaks to us about the upcoming clash with Darmstadt and also comments on the importance of the TSG fans.

On Tuesday you were able to chat to the fans at ‘Fan evening’. What interested you the most and why is it such an important event?

Pavel Kaderabek: It’s an important event for the spectators but also for us. Normally the fans only get to see us on the pitch, but at this sort of event they can get to know us away from the football field. The evening was a lot of fun. I sat at a table with the fan group ‘1899 Hoffenheim do Brazil’. We spoke a lot and the food was tasty. The fans are important to us and we need their support at every game.

The match in Wolfsburg started well. Why were you unable to defend the lead?

Kaderabek: In the first half we played really well. We were the better team. Unfortunately we didn’t keep it up after the break. Wolfsburg didn’t have many chances other than when they scored, but still, we can’t allow that to happen and we have to defend better.

You were injured at the turn of the year and missed the game in Augsburg. How difficult do you find watching the games?

Kaderabek: That’s always very hard. When we played in Augsburg, I actually stayed at home and watched the game with my family on the TV, which was nice. Luckily we won which made not being involved a little easier, but I’d much rather be fit and playing.

On Saturday you face SV Darmstadt, who just toppled Borussia Dortmund. Do you think you’re going to be up against a strong defensive unit?

Kaderabek: I think we’ll certainly have more of the ball, but that doesn’t make it any easier. Darmstadt are strong on the counter and we’ll have to be wary of that and defend well or, ideally, not let them counter at all.

What’s the most important thing when playing teams who like to defend?

Kaderabek: It’s never easy playing against teams who like a battle and will fight for everything. But for us the most important thing is that we play better than we did against Wolfsburg. If we all concentrate then we should make sure of that. It’s quite simple: we have to win.

You were able to recover from the defeat in Leipzig very quickly with the win against Mainz. Why do you think that will be the case again this weekend?

Kaderabek: We’re still unbeaten at home. Of course, we want that to still be the case after the Darmstadt game, but as we saw last week, anything can happen in the Bundesliga. - last week Darmstadt beat Dortmund. But we’re stronger at home and tend to play better in front of our fans, who are amazing and always give us great support.
