TSG win third friendly against Grossaspach

TSG won their third and final match of their preparations during the winter break. Julian Nagelsmann’s side comfortably beat third-division outfit SG Sonnenhof Grossaspach 4-1. Mark Uth, Simon Lorenz, Stefan Posch and Marco Terrazzino all got themselves on the scoresheet for Hoffenheim.

Julian Nagelsmann sent out the following team to line up against Grossaspach: Alexander Stolz, Fabian Schär, Eugen Polanski, Pirmin Schwegler, Mark Uth, Adam Szalai, Philipp Ochs, Dennis Geiger, Danilo Soares, Simon Lorenz and Stefan Posch. On the bench were Gregor Kobel, Ermin Bicakcic, Marco Terrazzino, Baris Atik and Maximilian Waack. The team set up in a 3-4-3 formation.

It took just three minutes for TSG to create the first spark of the match. Soares brought the ball into the box and the Brazilian looked up to see Szalai in the centre but his ball across was intercepted at the last moment. Soares was also involved in Hoffenheim’s second opportunity of the game, finding Mark Uth in the final third, who hit it straight away but it went wide of the post.

Good chance from a header

Former Hoffeneheim U23 player Lucas Röser had the best chance of the match so far for the away side. The centre-forward got his head on the end of a cross from a free-kick but he couldn’t connect and it went just over.

The ball was down the other end shortly after though. Another header, another big chance. Geiger crosses it to Szalai, who slides it to head it but it goes past the post.

Uth equalises

TSG found themselves under a lot of pressure in the 34th minute. Grossaspach came down the right hand side, brought it into the area and managed to get behind the Hoffenheim back-line. Sebastian Schiek was there and struck it first time with the inside of his foot. The home side’s attempts to get a foot in were too late and Grossaspach went 1-0 up.
But Mark Uth made it all square just before the break. Dennis Geiger sent Philipp Ochs on his way and he was able to look up and find Uth. The forward hit it from 13 metres out and made it look easy as it flew into the left corner.

Strong recovery

It also did not take long for “Hoffe” to strike again after the break. Fabian Schär rose the highest after a corner and was unfortunate to see his header crash off the bar. However Simon Lorenz was there to poke in from two metres out to give TSG a 2-1 lead. Marco Terrazzino, who was brought on at half time for Philipp Ochs, was next to create an opportunity for the hosts but he just missed the target.

Stefan Posch made things even better for Nagelsmann’s side in the 67th minute, finishing from close range after a great move down the left-hand side to get his team’s third goal of the afternoon. Substitute Terrazzino completed the rout to make it 4-1 just nine minutes later, finishing with a fine left-footed strike into the corner from twelve metres out in what turned out to be a straightforward match for TSG.

Julian Nagelsmann was satisfied with the performance to a certain degree. “The second half was good but we didn’t create enough before half-time.”
