FC Augsburg match reaction

Hear from players and managers after the 2-0 win at Augsburg.

Julian Nagelsmann: Augsburg started the game well. They were very aggressive and defended very well. We were a built to slow moving the ball in possession. The quality from both sides wasn’t great in the early exchanges. Nevertheless, we always looked good on the break but just lacked that clinical edge in the final third. Shortly after the break, Sandro went through and put us in the lead. I said to Andrej just before he went on that he would score today and luckily I was right. Overall, we were sharper and generally better after the break, so I think we deserved the win. I am happy that we played so well after the break. Today, the team once again showed that they are desperate to win games and against a good opponent.

Manuel Baum: Congratulations to Hoffenheim on the win. We played well in the first half, but lacked ambition going forward. We then conceded very quickly after the break and that’s always difficult. After the second goal, it is mentally very difficult to get back into the game. In my opinion, the second goal was offside. In the end, we had chances ourselves to score.

Sandro Wagner: My biggest wish is always for us to win. It’s brilliant when we do it and get a result after all the hard work that goes in during the week. We have a great team and it’s really enjoyable at the moment. We’re delighted with the win and that we are still unbeaten but we still take each game as it comes and now we are only focusing on the next match in Leipzig.

Kerem Demirbay: We’re thrilled with the victory. We faced a strong opponent today, who have worked well during the winter break. But we deserved to win because of our second-half performance.

Kevin Vogt: I really enjoyed coming back to Augsburg but today I’m obviously pleased that TSG won. We were patient and then we started to play our football. That was crucial to us travelling home with the three points. We needed a bit of time but then we got into the game well and scored two very nice goals. We deserved to win and we dominated.

Mark Uth: It feels great to start the new year with a win. We played really well in the second half and scored the goal we needed. In the first half, we took too long to move the ball around which meant that we didn’t have the space we wanted.
