HSV Match Reaction

The coaches and players have their say after TSG's 2-2 draw with Hamburger SV.

Julian Nagelsmann: We played very well and were very dominant in the first 20 minutes. We created three or four very good chances. I think it got in the players’ heads a bit that they had been so dominant without taking the lead. HSV got more into the game and they realised that they would have to be very focused, but getting the equaliser before the break was a big help there. The first 10 minutes after half time went exactly to plan, and that saw us take the lead. From that point, we stepped back too much. Their second goal was much like their first, and it took us five minutes or so to settle down after it. We still made four or five great chances towards the end of the game, but did not take them. We are disappointed with the result today and have only ourselves to blame.

Markus Gisdol: Both teams were sure to give little away throughout the game. We wanted to be brave as a team and we did that well. We knew that we had to give everything. I was impressed by how the team responded to the setbacks during the game. We played well as a team, and the fans played their part as well. This was a step in the right direction and we have to continue on this path. The team comes above all else.

Emir Bicakcic: We started well but lost our way a little. Overall, we did not mange to stick completely to our plan the way we wanted. They stole the ball high up in the lead-up to the opening goal, and I attempted to tackle Kostic but he did well to get his shot away. The good thing about football is that we have a chance to rectify this next week.

Steven Zuber: We did not take our chances today. HSV created fewer opportunities but we made mistakes. Andrej has made many important contributions for us, so we do not need to console him, and today it just was not to be. We have to tick the game off and then move on. I believe that we were dominant throughout the game. It does not matter that we have gone from third to fifth, it is only the Matchday 11, not 34.

Oliver Baumann: We made an excellent start and I think we really put Hamburg off their guard. We had so many chances, yet still the scores stayed 0-0. We managed to score twice just before and after half time and turn the game, but we won too few second balls, too few duels and did not stick to our strategy. We had a lot of chances in the second half, too. We gave HSV too much room today. The draw was unnecessary.

Kerem Demirbay: HSV did not make things easy for us. They played well. We are still undefeated but after today’s result that feels okay and nothing more, because we are not happy with the fact that we drew. We knew what we had to do today and did not stick wholly to our plan. Both the goals we conceded were avoidable.

Nicolai Müller: We are proud and satisfied with the result. I think that we had a bit of luck on our side and that served us well. It was important that we did not give up after going 2-1 down and that shows the spirit we have in the team.
