Ingolstadt match reaction

Here is what those involved in TSG’s 2-1 at FC Ingolstadt had to say after the match.

Julian Nagelsmann: We knew that Ingolstadt’s game plan was to try and win as many second balls as they could. We didn’t execute our plan that well in the first few minutes. We knew that we would have a lot of opportunities to counterattack and that’s exactly how we scored our goals. The build-up for both of them was excellent. We defended much deeper in the second half but we had three or four good chances to put the game to bed. We had to defend a lot towards the end but we deserved to win.

Markus Kauczyinski: The aim was defend, defend, defend, but we didn’t do that well today. We worked hard and carried on digging in tirelessly. Those were some good things about how we played. I’ve been questioning how we’ve been playing recently. It isn’t working at the moment so we have to find new ways of doing things. We are conceding goals too easily.

Kevin Vogt: We kept the intensity high throughout the 90 minutes. We set up really well and were concentrating hard, exactly as we did against Schalke. Of course we should have scored more today but we played with a lot of quality. We need to continue working hard in the upcoming weeks.

Sandro Wagner: It was important that we got the three points. We are unbeaten after six matches and have ten points. That is a good, solid start, but we need to build on that. We already should have beaten Leipzig and Mainz. Now we are starting to find our way. I think that’s really positive going into the next few weeks.

Benjamin Hübner: For me it was not easy today, playing my first game for TSG against my former club. I’m pleased that it went as well as it did. The coach told me that I would be playing today and it was good that he told me late on so I didn’t have much time to think about it. I was fully motivated and wanted to do my best.
