Fourth Bundesliga win as TSG overcome Leverkusen
Line-up and tactics:
“Never change a winning team” doesn’t seem to apply to Julian Nagelsmann. The TSG head coach announced this in Thursday’s press conference ahead of the Leverkusen clash: “If I think the team needs a change, then I will make it.” Nagelsmann stuck to his word as he made two changes to his line-up against Leverkusen. Steven Zuber and Madiem Amiri both started for TSG.
Tactically, Hoffenheim stuck to their 3-5-2 formation. Benjamin Hübner, Niklas Süle and Kevin Vogt were in a three man central defence ahead of Oliver Baumann in goal. Both Pavel Kaderabek and Steven Zuber were the respective wing-backs. In midfield, Sebastian Rudy, Nadiem Amiri and Kerem Demirbay were in action, while Sandro Wagner and Andrej Kramaric spearheaded the attack.
In the second-half, Eugen Polanski joined the action in place of Rudy, while Adam Szalai replaced Kramaric. Eduardo Vargas was the final TSG change when he came on for Demirbay.
The moment of the match:
It has to be the early sending off for Kevin Volland. The Germany national team player spent four years at Hoffenheim, but was playing his first game against his former side today. What a return it was. After a sprint with Demirbay, Volland brought down the TSG midfielder in the sixth minute.
The number of the match: 4
TSG have won their fourth match on the bounce. Such a run is commonplace for some Bundesliga teams, but not Hoffenheim. The last time the side recorded this series of wins, was between August and September 2009.
