Darmstadt match reaction

Julian Nagelsmann: Similar to the game against Leipzig, we fell asleep in stoppage time. We didn’t track the runners nor stop the cross. We didn’t defend with every man until the end of the game, even though Darmstadt were throwing everything forward. Therefore, we didn’t deserve to win in the end and Darmstadt deserved their point. We started well but didn’t take advantage of our early chances, then we lost our patience and Darmstadt reacted. After half time, we started very well and got our goal but we ultimately didn’t play till the end and towards the final whistle we just stopped and conceded a late equaliser.

Norbert Meier: We’re very happy with the late and deserved equaliser. Initially, Hoffenheim controlled the game but then we started to win more tackles and the lads gained more confidence. The setback came in the 46th minute but the team didn’t give in, they were constantly going forward, my team tried everything. The point is very important for moral.

Andrej Kramaric: For me personally, it was nice to score again but it didn’t lead to a victory, therefore, I’m not happy. We drew again which isn’t enough, we didn’t play like we planned today and that has happened in the other games we’ve played until now.

Sebastian Rudy: We’ll have to look back and see what happened before their equaliser. It’s clear that can’t happen, above all, as it has happened before. We have to fix that quickly. It was obvious Darmstadt were throwing everything forward and therefore we had to defend until the end. After we got our lead, we stopped playing and let our opponents run and take advantage of the space. We didn’t execute our counter attacks well and therefore couldn’t build on our lead.

Ermin Bicakcic: The draw really hurts, we shouldn’t ever concede a goal like that in stoppage time – we’re all very frustrated. We wanted to play our game here, not simply exchange blows with the other side, but rather play football and we didn’t do that in the second half after the goal. Nevertheless, we had chances but didn’t make the most of them. At the end, we should have defended with everyone and cleared the ball at all costs but we didn’t do that.
