Kramaric in round of 16, Kaderabek knocked out

Andrej Kramaric and Adam Szalai have followed Fabian Schär into the EURO 2016 round of 16. Croatia ran out 2-1 winners against Spain in their last game and have qualified as group winners for the round of 16. However, it’s the end of the road for Pavel Kaderabek.

Three of the four TSG players at EURO 2016 have made it through to the knockout stage. After Fabian Schär and Switzerland secured their spot on Sunday, Andrej Kramaric and Adam Szalai have now followed suit with their respective countries. Kramaric came on in added time in Croatia’s last group game against Spain. Morata opened the scoring for Spain in the seventh minute but Croatia played well and were rewarded with the equaliser just before the break when Kalinic slotted home.

It remained an open game in the second half with chances for both sides and a penalty for Spain (70‘), which Croatian keeper Subasic saved. Perisic finished off a slick counterattack to settle the game in the 88th minute. Croatia therefore overtook Spain in the table and progress to the round of 16 as Group D winners.

Tournament over for Kaderabek

Pavel Kaderabek and the Czech Republic’s EURO 2016 journey came to an end against Turkey. After conceding in just the tenth minute, the Czech national team fought their way back into the game and carved out several good opportunities - Kaderabek had two good chances and put in a solid performance – however, were unable to find the equaliser before the break. In the second half, the Czech Republic kept battling but could not convert and instead shipped a second goal in the 65th minute, when Tufan netted. With the game finishing 2-0, it’s the end of the road for the Czech Republic at the European Championship in France.

Szalai and Hungary play Portugal in their last group game on Wednesday but, due to results in other groups, are already guaranteed a slot in the round of 16.

The first knockout game to feature a TSG player is also now confirmed. Fabian Schär and Switzerland, who finished second in Group A, will meet Poland on Saturday, 25th June at 15:00 CEST.
