Haberer moves to SC Freiburg - Mees returns

Janik Haberer has left TSG 1899 Hoffenheim. The 22-year-old attacker, who was on loan at second-division outfit VfL Bochum last season, is joining newly-promoted Bundesliga side SC Freiburg ahead of the new season. Joshua Mees returns to Kraichgau.

Haberer, who joined in summer 2014 from third-division club SpVgg Unterhaching and had a contract until 30th June 2018, featured in just 17 Regionalliga games for TSG’s U23s. He played 33 second-division games and scored three goals in Bochum. “Julian Nagelsmann and I had presented him with exciting prospects at TSG and had envisaged Janik becoming an integral part of our squad next season. However, he decided against this challenge and has instead opted to move on to a new club,” said Alexander Rosen, director of first-team football at TSG.

Meanwhile, Joshua Mees is returning to Hoffenheim from Freiburg. The 20-year-old attacking player was on loan at the club last season; however, he was sidelined for a considerable period with a back injury and only made six appearances in the Regionalliga. We have mutually agreed to terminate the loan agreement a year earlier than planned. Joshua is a talented attacking player and after his long spell out of action, will initially work with the U23s so that he can get back into a match rhythm and be recommended for our first team, said Rosen. The Germany U20 international, who was crowned German U19 champion under current head coach Julian Nagelsmann, is under contract in Hoffenheim until summer 2018.
