TSG say goodbye to Grahl, Herdling, Strobl and Kuranyi

During the final match of the season against Schalke on Saturday in the WIRSOL-Rhein-Neckar-Arena, TSG will say goodbye to four members of the current squad – Jens Grahl, Kai Herdling, Tobias Strobl and Kevin Kuranyi.

Jens Grahl has been a Hoffenheim player since July 2009 and made eleven appearances for the club in the Bundesliga and four in the DFB Cup. He was between the sticks in 51 matches for the U23 team in the Regional League. His sprints down the touch line to celebrate goals are unforgettable.

Kevin Volland explains his exploits after his equaliser against FC Köln, “Jens came flying in like a dragon.” The goalkeeper’s contract will expire at the end of June. “I have had a great time at TSG but I am ready to look for a new challenge. I would like to be the number one for another club,” said the 27-year-old.“ Jens is a top keeper, who could play in goal in a number of other Bundesliga teams. We wish him all the best in his future,” explained TSG goalkeeping coach Michael Rechner.

Herdling ends his career

Kai Herdling has been a Hoffenheim player for much longer – 14 years. The 31 year old midfielder has had to retire due to a long-term knee injury. Herdling, who scored in the DFB Cup quarterfinal against Bayer Leverkusen in 2003 will continue at TSG in a different role.

Tobias Strobl is leaving Hoffenheim for Borussia Mönchengladbach after playing over 80 Bundesliga matches for TSG. The defensive all-rounder made his decision known a number of weeks ago. Ahead of his last match in Hoffenheim colours, he said, “I hope that TSG continue their good work in the upcoming season.”

Kevin Kuranyi’s future is more unclear. The experienced striker came to TSG at the beginning of the season after many years of playing in Russia but has said that he plans to continue his career. On behalf of TSG Hoffenheim, I would like to thank all four players for their service and wish them all the best both in future, both in sport and in their personal lives. In their own way, every individual played their part in us turning our season around and securing safety,” said sporting director Alexander Rosen.
