UTH scores late equaliser in Ingolstadt

TSG battled away to secure a point against Ingolstadt, in a game characterised by physical challenges. Roger put the hosts in the lead through a free kick, but Mark Uth levelled things up in second-half injury time.

Line-up and tactics:

Huub Stevens’ side were unlucky to concede the late equaliser against Borussia Mönchengladbach last week, and although the gaffer is never completely satisfied, he was impressed enough with his side's performance against the 'Fohlenelf' to name the exact same starting XI for the second week in a row.

That meant that in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann, stood a back four of Tobias Strobl, Fabian Schär, Niklas Süle and Jin-Su Kim. Eugen Polanski and Pirmin Schwegler started together in central midfield, behind an attacking-midfield trio of Tarik Elyounoussi, Nadiem Amiri and Steven Zuber. Kevin Volland operated up front as a lone striker.

TSG had to make do without Eduardo Vargas (back injury) and Ermin Bicakcic (stomach problems). The system remained the same after the second-half substitutions, but the positions rotated. Kuranyi came on in the centre, meaning Volland pushed out wide onto the wing, and Kaderabek slotted in at right back, with Strobl switching to central midfield. Mark Uth was brought on late on for added firepower up front, and the change paid dividends.

Moment of the match:

Benjamin Hübner rises high to challenge Kevin Volland in an aerial duel, and finds himself taking a hard knock. He has to be treated for a long time on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher in great pain. We wish him all the best in his recovery.

Number of the match: 1

The first Bundesliga match between the two clubs ends 1-1. Roger scores his first Bundesliga goal for the hosts, and his first Ingolstadt goal in 104 matches. Similarly, Uth's late equaliser for Hoffenheim was his first competitive goal for TSG and his first Bundesliga goal ever.
