Hannover 96 match reaction
Huub Stevens: We struggled to get into the match initially. Hannover were the better team in the early stages. We did very well to make it 1-0. We ought to have scored a couple more in the second half, but unfortunately we weren’t able to and Hannover were always in it. Luckily, we saw it out and secured all three points. The atmosphere in the dressing room is very good, but for me the situation has not changed. We have three points, but we are still towards the bottom of the table.
Michael Frontzeck: It was a frustrating afternoon. We invested a lot, saw as much of the ball as we have so far this season, but were punished through a mistake. From then you are of course chasing the game. We had enough chances to pick up points, which makes it very frustrating. It was of course a risky game in the second half, as they had the chances to score more. We now have Bayern coming up, and we want to give the fans something to cheer.
Jonathan Schmid: A lot of weight has been lifted off our shoulders today. We worked hard as a team for the win. My dance after the goal is a reference to a French song by Maitre Gims. It was a difficult match, but we created a lot of chances despite Hannover’s organisation. Unfortunately only one went in, but that was enough. We have to keep going, and start to climb up the table. We are very pleased, which is why we’re a bit late coming out the dressing room than normal.
Oliver Baumann: We are of course very happy that everything worked out. We are still a couple of wins away from really relieving the pressure; we still have too few points. We are happy with today though. It’s difficult battling at the bottom, and you have to try and get a foot in the game – we did that today. It was crucial; it showed what we are capable of. We will keep fighting – that’s the most important thing.
