Markus Gisdol: The way we played in the first half could not be repeated in the second, especially after going 1-0 down. The team responded well in the second half. We looked much more likely to take the lead than Bremen. We were the better team. We would definitely have deserved at least a point. For the second time this season, we’ve thrown away points in the last minutes of a game, so of course we can now see it as a bad start to the season.
Viktor Skripnik: It was very difficult to win this game. In the end the man of the hour made the difference, and we’re delighted about this. We showed great discipline in the first half; in the second half there was a spell where Hoffenheim dominated the game. They had the chance to take the lead. We managed to swing the game in our favour right at the end – so I’m very proud of my team.
Oliver Baumann: We need to show more desire in the next few games. It was obvious that we wanted something from the game, but we didn’t get into it. A ten minute spell just isn’t enough. Now we need to remain calm and analyse our performance critically. We need to be aware that performing as we did today is not good enough.
Pirmin Schwegler: Our first half was poor. We could have been more than a goal down if Bremen had created more chances. We obviously realised at half time that we needed to do more, and we came back stronger. We keep getting hit in defence. It’s tough to take. It’s the second time this season that we’ve thrown away points late in a game. We’re going through a tough phase.
Zlatko Junuzovic: It was an extremely important victory for us. We didn’t let the opposition into the game, found gaps in their defence and deservedly took the lead. We didn’t start the second half very well: Hoffenheim had a number of chances. In the end, “Pizza” was on hand to assist the winner and give us the three points.
