Frankfurt match reaction

We got the reactions of Markus Gisdol, Thomas Schaaf and a few of the players after TSG’s 3-1 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

Markus Gisdol: The first half was very disappointing on our part. We played the ball sideways too much and didn’t manage to put into action many of the things we planned. I almost went crazy on the touchline. We then fell behind because we didn’t defend well enough. We made a triple substitution to try and mix things up. We weren’t able to get anything other than a consolation goal though. We deserved to lose.

Thomas Schaaf: We have to thank our fans for their support today. We’re weren’t as composed and in control in the second half but they stayed right behind us nevertheless. Congratulations to the fans and the team. All in all, we were very good in the first half, were clinical with our chances and played straightforward and simple football. You can go into the break relaxed when you’re 3-0 up. We conceded possession too quickly in the second 45 and were camped deep in our own half, unable to get out of defence. We finally started to attack more towards the end.

Pirmin Schwegler: We pretty much turned up an hour late in Frankfurt today. We completely slept through the first half. When you go into the break 3-0 down, it’s obviously tricky to recover and normally the game has already been put to bed. That was the case today.

Kevin Volland: You have to be winning games like that. It’s simply very disappointing.

Andreas Beck: We lost the game here today because the game was taken out of our control in the opening stages. Eintracht capitalised on their first two opportunities. We couldn’t find a response and so you can’t win. We knew that we would come up against a strong Frankfurt side but the fact that it took us 45 minutes to wake up and get into the game is inexplicable.
