TSG go down
2-1 in first home
game of 2015

Hoffenheim lost their first home game of the year 2-1 to Werder Bremen. The visitors took an early lead through Franco Di Santo, but TSG grew into the game and Ermin Bicakcic scored a deserved equaliser before the break. However, an unlucky deflected goal early in the second half for Bremen ended up proving decisive at the WIRSOL Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Tactics and line-up:

Manager Markus Gisdol made a few tweaks to the team that started Sunday's game at Augsburg. Jin-Su Kim, who returned from the Asian Cup this week, started at left back in place of Tobias Strobl, who moved inside to partner Ermin Bicakcic in central defence. The usual 4-2-3-1 formation was out in force once more, with winger Tarik Elyounoussi returning to the starting XI on the left, Kevin Volland on the right and the ever-present Roberto Firmino starting just behind striker Adam Szalai, who was preferred to Anthony Modeste up top.

Moment of the match:

It actually came before the match had even started. The TSG players all wore special tops during the warm-up, which had the slogan “Hoffe gegen Rechts” (Hoffenheim against right-wing extremism) written on the back. The campaign is not only against racism, but also every form of right-wing extremism.

TSG had 66% possession, won 54% of their tackles and completed 543 passes (Werder completed 282). Hoffenheim were better than Werder statistically in every department but they weren't able to come away with the win.
