Kai Herdling:
"The quality is higher"

One year ago, Kai Herdling was promoted from the U23s to TSG's first team at the ripe age of 29. The late bloomer has recently been struggling with an adductor muscle injury, but was in the 18-man squad for the game against Bremen on matchday two. achtzehn99.de had a chat with the long-serving TSG midfielder.

Hello, Kai. Will you be watching the matches during the international break and following the progress of your TSG teammates?

Kai Herdling: I'll definitely be watching Germany's matches. Basti Rudy is in the squad now, which makes it a bit more interesting. I'll follow Ermin, ‘Sali' and Tarik's progress with Bosnia and Norway online.

Does training change at all during an international break?

Herdling: No, we stay on track and continue to work on the basic principles of our game. We're working on how we play without the ball at the moment.

How different is training for you compared to last year?

Herdling: The content, the direction we're heading in and the principles are the same, but the quality is definitely higher. We made a few good signings in the summer and that is really showing in training.
