Gladbach match reaction

Read the views of Markus Gisdol, Lucien Favre and TSG players after Hoffenheim's 3-1 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Markus Gisdol:That doesn't feel good today – but that's what defeat is. Our performance was okay, but Gladbach were really strong. The first half was balanced, but Gladbach upped the ante after the break. There were times when they played really quickly prior to the opener. Gladbach are really quick on the counter. They're on a good run and don't concede many; especially in the first half. They deserved their equaliser and we were unlucky to go into the break a goal down. You couldn't question our performance today,

Lucien Favre:It was a tough game today, but we had to make it 4-1. You never know what's going to happen if they pull a goal back. But we deservedly won today. We didn't take our chances that well though, that's a shame. It's great to celebrate my birthday today, but I'm not alone. We have a great team here – we play well together. It's fantastic. Our fans understand football, we'll take each match a game at a time.

Oliver Baumann:We kept on knocking on the door in the second half but couldn't find a way through. We just couldn't find that crucial pass so we had few chances. I had the feeling that I was obstructed for the first goal as I was unable to move. The third goal also annoyed me as Herrmann was unmarked.

Pirmin Schwegler: Defeats are always hard to take. But Gladbach had –not just today – a very good team. We tried to stop them but it wasn't enough at the end of the day. The goals all came from stupid mistakes, with which we reacted too late.

Niklas Süle:We played especially well in the first half, but Gladbach are very good up front. You just can't make the mistakes that we made against them today. We changed things around a bit in the second half, to play a bit more through the centre behind Gladbach's back four, but we couldn't find a way though. If we played in the second half as we did in the first half, then perhaps we would have taken a point.

Eugen Polanski:We showed a terrific performance in the first half. We gave away two goals though, the first was too easy and the second, they were too quick. We wanted to try something different after the break, but their third ended it for us. We weren't all too happy with our second-half performance. Now it's about addressing these mistakes. We'll bounce back.
