Goals galore – TSG romp to victory in Ketsch

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim and Spielvereinigung 06 Ketsch met during pre-season last year and Hoffenheim ended up winning that game 11-1. 2014 offered a repeat fixture on a beautiful day in Ketsch, and the fans that attended were treated to another bucket load of goals as TSG recorded a 17-0 victory.

Markus Gisdol's side got into the game quickly and were firing on all cylinders right from the off, despite the sweltering heat. When the first drinks break came around the half-hour mark, TSG had already built up a 7-0 lead. The goals had been scored solely by Kai Herdling (4) and Jiloan Hamad (3). Hoffenheim added yet another goal before half time, with Herdling grabbing his fifth in the 35th minute.

There was only one change from Gisdol at the interval, with Marvin Schwäbe replacing Alexander Stolz in goal. The second half's first goal fell in the 53rd minute when Janik Haberer made it 9-0. Mass substitutions followed after an hour, with Niklas Süle, Haberer and freshly introduced goalkeeper Schwäbe the only players staying on the pitch for the Kraichgau club.

The second half was also full of goals: Haberer netted his second, while braces from Tarik Elyounoussi and Roberto Firmino, as well as a Kevin Volland hat-trick, ensured that the final score was 17-0 to TSG. The players' attention after the match quickly turned to the fans and getting out of the sun, as they signed countless autographs in the shade. Gisdol's charges will need to recover quickly, with a friendly against FC Speyer 09 (11:00 CEST) on the cards for tomorrow, before the team head to their training camp in Switzerland on Wednesday.
