Stuttgart match reaction

Here is the match reaction following the 4-1 derby win over VfB Stuttgart

Markus Gisdol:We don't have to do any nitpicking today. The team pulled everything out of the bag and more. The players were wired. And straight after a real fight in the cup match on Wednesday as well. We had a good game and earned a second successive home win. We're going to reward the lads and give them Monday and Tuesday off. Whoever comes to training then won't find us (laughs).

Thomas Schneider:Congratulations to Markus Gisdol and his team. We fully deserved to lose today. We took on a lot during the week but couldn't put all of it into practice over the whole 90 minutes. It just wasn't enough from us. It's another setback. We weren't good in the important tackles – we have to work on that. Even the last-placed side in the table have understood that it will be a fight until the end this season.

Sven Schipplock:I'm not actually responsible for the intricate play, but nevertheless I did it well today. I'm delighted with that, but I have to admit that there was some luck in it too. We knew that it would be a battling game with the weather conditions. The pitch certainly played a role. But we still fought hard and showed passion. It was great fun today.

Fabian Johnson: We always had a man on the scene whenever there were any dicey moments. We helped each other out on a tricky pitch. That was important. Obviously we were desperate for the win today. In the three years that I've been at TSG, the home games against Stuttgart have become more and more special. The win makes the atmosphere in the stadium even better.

Kevin Volland:That was a hard-fought game today. You could see by the state of the pitch at the end. We dealt with the conditions really well. We called on every last ounce of our strength. We set up solidly, were very compact and that made it difficult for the opponents. We played as a team today. It was very positive.
