Nürnberg match reaction

Here is the match reaction after TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's 4-0 defeat to 1. FC Nürnberg:

Markus Gisdol: “I told my team before the game not to overestimate the results and performances of the winter break. Nürnberg were more determined and won more tackles too. As a result, they deserved to win. I wish Nürnberg all the best. We proved to be a helping hand today.“

Gertjan Verbeek: “I think it was a great game for the neutral. There were lots of chances for both sides from the off. It was important that we scored the first goal. The second one just before half time gave us a good feeling going into the break. I said in the dressing room that it is important to keep a clean sheet, but that we should still work towards the next goal. We got more space in the second half but we also allowed a few chances. I'm happy that we have picked up our first win.”

Andreas Beck: “Our performance today was desolate. And that's got nothing to do with the performance that we had planned for. It was a mental thing and it was unforgivable. Things went badly after we went 1-0 down. This must be a warning to us otherwise we'll be battling relegation again.”

Koen Casteels: “I don't really have any explanation. We prepared well and performed in the friendlies. Nevertheless, quite a lot went wrong today. We were constantly late to everything, and that made the game easy for FCN. It was the first game of the second half of the season though, and we do have a lot of games ahead of us. We must be better against HSV next week.”

Eugen Polanski: “I didn't think this would happen again. It's beyond explanation. We have shown on more than enough occasions that we are better than this. We've got to be brave enough to implement the things we've done in training and in friendlies. It's time for us to get that right.”

Timothy Chandler: “The win is fully deserved. We played brilliantly right from the opening minute and had that bit of luck we needed in attack. We are absolutely delighted.”
