FSV Frankfurt win Harder13 Cup – TSG finish in fifth

The eighth annual Harder13 Cup took place in Mannheim's SAP Arena on Saturday and Hoffenheim were involved. However, TSG suffered four defeats and ended the competition in fifth place. The winners of the tournament were FSV Frankfurt, who beat SV Waldhof 3-2 in the final.

Markus Gisdol's side was made up of ten outfield players and two goalkeepers. Seven of them belonged to the first team, with the remainder of the squad made up of U19 players Nicolai Rapp, Erdal Öztürk, Baris Atik, Benjamin Trümner and back-up goalkeeper Marvin Schwäbe. The first-team players were Alexander Stolz, Kevin Akpoguma, Vincenzo Grifo, Kenan Karaman, Robin Szarka, Jeremy Toljan and Andreas Ludwig.

There were 8,177 fans in the arena watching on as TSG played some good football in the opening game against last year's winners Karlsruher SC, but unluckily ended up on the wrong end of a 1-0 scoreline. Hoffenheim's next match was against SV Sandhausen, which also provided a defeat for Gisdol's men. Again it was an energetic performance, but SVS led 1-0 at the break thanks to a goal from Danny Blum. TSG suffered a time penalty in the second half and Sandhausen went on to win 2-0 with a man extra thanks to Simon Tüting's strike.

After a short break, Hoffenheim played their third match against FSV Frankfurt. The encounter ended in a 4-0 win for the side from Hesse with goals from Nikita Rukavystsya, Marcel Kaffenberger and a Kevin Akpoguma own goal. TSG's final match offered a meeting with SV Waldhof Mannheim, although Hoffenheim were merely playing for pride. Mannheim went into a 2-0 lead, before U19 player Benjamin Trümner scored a consolation goal for the Kraichgau side.
