2013's final internationals complete for TSG players

Almost all of the attention during the international break was on the World Cup qualifying play-offs. France, Greece, Croatia and Portugal were the ones to secure the final European spots at Brazil next summer. However, there were also some TSG players involved in friendlies in the final international break of 2013: Sejad Salihovic, Tarik Elyounoussi and Koen Casteels.

Sweden failed to turn around their first-leg play-off deficit against Portugal. It really was a battle of the two superstars as Cristiano Ronaldo and Zlatan Ibrahimovic provided the only goals for their respective nations, with the Real Madrid forward outscoring the PSG striker 4-2 on aggregate. That means that there's no chance of seeing new Swedish TSG signing Jiloan Hamad at Brazil 2014. There is better news for Koen Casteels, with his Belgium side securing a spot at the World Cup finals a few weeks back as group winners. They ended the year with a friendly match against Japan, although the TSG keeper didn't feature in a 3-2 win for the Asian side.

Tarik Elyounoussi did feature in his nation's final game of the calendar year, as Norway hosted Scotland in Molde. However, the Scandinavian outfit suffered a 1-0 defeat, with Hoffenheim's attacker only brought on in the final stages of the match.

Bosnia-Herzegovina played their final game of 2013 on Monday in St. Louis, USA. Their opponents, however, were Argentina. Sejad Salihovic wasn't at full fitness and so didn't make an appearance in the encounter between the two 2014 World Cup participants. The two-time winners of the tournament won the match 2-0, with Manchester City's Sergio Agüero scoring both goals.
