Gladbach match reaction

Here is the match reaction after TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's 2-1 win against Borussia Mönchengladbach:

Markus Gisdol: We really wanted to win today and went beyond our capabilities to make it happen. We defended as a team for 90 minutes and as a result we deserved to win. After their goal, it's only normal that the risk increases but we did well during this phase. Today was about taking the lessons of the first four games and putting them into place on the pitch. We beat a very good opponent today. The second goal was perfect. We planned for them to have more possession than us. After their goal, there were a few hairy moments but we did well and got that bit of luck we needed.

Andreas Beck: We are still finding our feet as a team. We worked on the mistakes we made in Stuttgart. The basis for the win today was a strong defence. I take my hat off to the team's performance today. Against a strong opponent like Gladbach, you've got to go and get the win. Kevin Volland is in sensational form. He is the difference for us.

Kevin Volland: It's a great feeling. We gave all we could for 90 minutes and fought until we could go no more. We played well after their goal and it was clear to see in everyone's face that we were willing to go beyond ourselves for the win.

Anthony Modeste: We stepped things up in training and wanted to show a response to the collapse in Stuttgart. We are all pleased with the first home win of the season.

Kai Herdling: It was great to be in the starting eleven in front of our home fans. I've been at the club for a few years now but it was something special for me. Gladbach dominated today and let the ball do the work. But we were defensively sound and well positioned. The pressure got greater towards the end of the game, but we did it. The win is a big reward for us. Our fans were amazing today. I think it must be great for them to be at a game like this. The end of the match was adrenaline full for us.

Lucien Favre: It's really disappointing to lose here today. We had a lot of the ball but that's not all you need in a game. We played too complicated football and things didn't go to plan. We lost the ball too often. Then we conceded an unnecessary goal before the break. In the second half, we applied more pressure and attacked more – the number of chances were in our favour too. The second goal from our point of view just cannot happen. At the end of the day, only the results count and today we didn't do enough to pick up any points.
