TSG lose 2-1 in Freiberg

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim lost 2-1 in their third pre-season friendly to fifth-division side SGV Freiberg. Tarik Elyounoussi put TSG in front after ten minutes, turning a pass from Kevin Akpoguma under the crossbar.

The striker had to be withdrawn a short while later though, after hitting his head on the ground following a tackle. As a safety measure, Elyounoussi was taken to a hospital in Ludwigsburg. Kenan Karaman replaced him in the 26th minute.

Ten minutes later, the hosts scored an equaliser. Hakan Kutlu set up Spetim Muzliukaj in the penalty area and the striker finished from close range. The score remained 1-1 until half time.

Modeste has the chance to equalise

As planned, Markus Gisdol changed his entire squad at the break. The likes of Andreas Beck, Sejad Salihovic, Kevin Volland, Jannik Vestergaard and new signing Anthony Modeste were now on the pitch.

It was the home team that scored next though. A corner from the left-hand side was nodded in at the near post by Ouadie Barini. After the 66th minute, TSG started piling the pressure on the Freiberg goal. A cross from Patrick Schorr gave Kevin Volland a good chance to score but his header bounced back off the crossbar. The TSG forward constantly looked a threat to the home team's goal but wasn't rewarded for his performance. Anthony Modeste had the best chance to equalise in the 89th minute, but his first-time shot was kept out by an impressive reflex save by the SGV keeper. It was Hoffenheim's last chance of the game.

Manager Markus Gisdol's thoughts after the match: “The important thing was that the players get some minutes. The result is secondary, even if we would rather have won the game.”
