Sebastian Rudy: "We want to imprint the club's playing style"

Sebastian Rudy had a right ankle operation in December but last Friday he celebrated his Bundesliga comeback against Fortuna Düsseldorf. He was brought on for Sven Schipplock in the 81st minute. He spoke to achtzehn99.de about his return, the upcoming fixtures and the U21 European Championships in the summer ahead.

How was last Friday's game for you?

It was a great evening. To celebrate my comeback with a win is the best possible outcome. To be brought on at 2-0 helped, of course. If it had been 0-0 I probably would have been far more nervous.

Did you think you were going to be brought on?

I worked really hard in training the week beforehand and told the manager I was available. I couldn't do much more. Everything else is his decision.

How did your body react to the physical strain, even if it was only 15 minutes including added time?

Even in that short space of time, I realised that a game is something completely different to training. I am fully fit though and that's why it was fine for me to be involved.

How was the first training session under Markus Gisdol?

Training has been really good. Each player is involved and enjoying themselves as well.

On the weekend, Hoffenheim have a trip to Wolfsburg. What kind of game are you expecting?

Just as we did against Düsseldorf, we will be looking to imprint this club's playing style. Then we'll see how Wolfsburg react. Towards the end of the week, our work with Wolfsburg will intensify but generally our focus is on ourselves and our performance.

The U21 European Championship is this summer. As a result of your injury, you've not been in the team for a while now. How do you think things are looking for you?

During my injury spell, manager Rainer Adrion inquired how I was and how my recovery was coming along. If I perform well for my club then hopefully I can be included in the U21 squad again, especially the one that will take part in the tournament this summer.
