Fortuna Düsseldorf match reaction

Here is the match reaction following TSG's 3-0 win against Fortuna on Friday night.

Markus Gisdol: We deservedly went in front after having a good spell, but then we lost our grip a bit. There were some small things that I liked. Most of all that the players put their blood, sweat and tears into the game. We want to keep moving forward, step by step. The team showed real willingness and did a lot of running which is great.

Norbert Meier: We tried a lot of different things but couldn't keep pace with an error-free opponent. We made the decisive mistake. Their first goal came following one of our own set-pieces. It obviously got a little difficult after the own goal put us two down. We weren't clinical enough with our attacking play.

Kevin Volland: We put our opponents on the back foot early on and worked ourselves some good chances. Düsseldorf really struggled to deal with our pressing in the opening 15 minutes. The win feels great.

Andreas Beck: It was a lot of hard work but it was a lot of fun too. We managed to put the things we've worked on in training into practice. Obviously the win is a relief because we needed the points. Now we just need to keep plugging away.

Jannik Vestergaard: We started really well and put the opponents under pressure. We pressed high up in their half and caused them problems. We stepped off a bit after the first goal but we defended well as a team. It's a deserved win. It's a good start that gives us a lot of confidence.

Koen Casteels: Of course it's not easy when you're just sitting there on the bench and then suddenly you have to play. You have to go in with the mindset that it's the first minute. I got through a difficult phase well. That was pivotal to the match. Overall we started very well but then dropped off a little. Fortunately we perked back up again and deservedly won the match.

Sven Schipplock: The manager clearly laid out his plan to us. It was the first time in while that I've been involved from the start. I tried to give my all. The manager asked for a lot of aggression and that's how we played. It was important to get the confidence of having won.

Axel Bellinghausen: We're lacking that final bit of desire at the moment – the craving to put the ball in the back of the net, no matter what it takes. I don't care how many points we've got at the moment or where we are in the table. We just have to win a game again.
