Tim Wiese is the number one – quality and experience can help TSG reach their goal

It was a turbulent year for Tim Wiese, but the disappointment of 2012 is now forgotten. Hoffenheim's goalkeeper is determined to have a successful second half of the season with TSG. Following the training camp in Portimao, manager Marco Kurz named the 31-year-old as his number one between the posts. “We have three very good keepers. Tim stands out because he has a vast amount of experience, as well as a great deal of quality. A top-form Tim Wiese is an important ingredient in a recipe for success that will help us avoid relegation”, said a confident Kurz.

Tim Wiese already has 135 minutes of playing time under his belt in 2013 after taking part in friendly wins against Sparta Rotterdam (1-0) and SC Heerenveen (3-1) in sunny southern Europe. The team looked notably improved in defence with some solid displays. The six-times-capped German international certainly had his part to play in that and said himself, “That went well. We were stable and stayed organised. That really helps me a lot as a goalkeeper.”

His goalkeeping coach Zsolt Petry added: “Over the last few weeks since his injury, Tim has been meticulous and full of ambition in his preparations for the second half of the season. He knows that his performances will have a big impact on whether the team is successful or not and he deals with that very well. Tim has overcome some difficult situations in the past in his career. That experience, coupled with his desire to succeed, will definitely help the team get back on track.”
