Luis Advincula: “I know we can stay up!”

Hoffenheim's new signing Luis Advincula has been in Germany since Friday evening. After passing his medical on Saturday, he travelled with TSG on the Sunday to their training camp in Portugal. Since then, the Peruvian international has already been involved in his first training session. achtzehn99.de spoke to the 22-year-old during lunch about his first impressions of the team and his move to the Bundesliga. Physiotherapist Michael ‘Mitch' Grau-Stenzel speaks fluent Spanish and so acted as translator.

Luis, how did you find the first training session with your new team?

I'm used to training sessions from Peru but the rhythm and intensity is definitely higher here. I will have to get used to it but I am a fighter and I will work hard to be a strong addition to the team.

Did you know of Hoffenheim before their interest in you and how did you follow the Bundesliga in Peru?

There's regular coverage of the Bundesliga on Peruvian television so I have seen Hoffenheim games in the past. Apart from that, I have been in contact with the other Peruvian players in Germany that I know from the national team. I've known Carlos Zambrano since the U17 team and I spoke to Jefferson Farfan about the move. He helped me with my decision. This team has a lot of potential and a good outlook.

What convinced you to join the club, despite the difficult sporting situation at Hoffenheim at the moment?

Quite simply the chance to play in the Bundesliga. I find the league more intriguing than the Spanish one because the teams are more even. Also, I'm convinced we can stay up. I don't just think that we will, I know we will and I will do all I can to make that happen.

What are your strengths and in what position do you feel most comfortable?

I am relatively quick and constantly give 100 percent. I hate losing and even in friendlies I am looking to play my best. The position is not the decisive issue. For Peru, I often play on the right side but I put myself totally and utterly in the service of the team.

Do you feel at home here already?

I am very happy to be here and I am looking forward to this challenge. The only thing that is missing is my family. I want to get my wife and my son Luis Fabianno over to Germany as soon as possible and then my happiness will be complete.
