Gladbach match reaction

Here is the match reaction following TSG's 0-0 draw with Borussia Mönchengladbach in their opening Bundesliga game of 2013.

Marco Kurz: “It was a very intensive match. Gladbach had very good positional play. Our line and our compactness were good. You can see that we're on the right track. The 0-0 draw is an important result for us. You can see the willingness in the side and the fans picked up on it as well. I was particularly pleased with our desire to win, our mentality and our attitude. We had two good opportunities, but ter Stegen had a good game. We were willing to do the running and we hardly let anything through at the back – that was superb. Something we need to improve on is our positioning when we have possession. I think it was a good performance for my first match.”

Andreas Beck: “That was better from us. We worked well as a unit. We allowed Gladbach to have the possession and then were looking to apply pressure on the ball. You could see that the team showed the desire to win the game right until the end.”

Tobias Weis: “You could see everyone fighting for each other. We can come away from the match with our heads held high. I'm feeling positive, but we have to take it one game at a time.”

Lucien Favre: “I think it was a good game – not great, but good. We played a well-organised team here today and needed to work hard to find a gap. Hoffenheim were very compact. We had some good possession but it wasn't enough to get a goal. We had a better tempo in the second half and we tried more things, but the opponents were too compact and dangerous on the counter. I think we can be happy with a point coming off the back of the winter break.”

Patrick Herrmann: “Hoffenheim sat very deep and made it difficult for us. The closer we got to their goal, the harder they made it for us. It was difficult to really get into the game. Things went a little better after we changed the system, but overall we have to be happy that we're taking a point away with us.”
