Usami fighting for bronze

The dream of an Olympic medal for Takashi Usami is over. The Hoffenheim player's Japan side were beaten 3-1 in the semi-final by Mexico, meaning him and his teammates will be playing in the bronze medal match on Friday.

Borussia Mönchengladbach's Yuki Otsu put the Asian side in front after 12 minutes, but goals from Marco Fabian, Oribe Peralta, and one from Javier Cortes in added time, turned the match in favour of the Mexicans. Usami joined the game in the 77th minute, but was unable to prevent defeat. At 20.35 CET on Friday, Japan battle for bronze with South Korea, who were beaten in their semi-final by Brazil.
