Reaction to the game against Nürnberg

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim fell to a 3-2 defeat at home to 1. FC Nürnberg in their final home game of the season. Find out here what the players and managers of the respective sides had to say about the result.

Markus Babbel:
“The result is very disappointing for us. We created good chances in the first half but we were unable to put them away. We let the game get away from us because of individual mistakes. Trying to come from behind is always difficult in conditions like today.

Dieter Hecking:
There wasn't that much riding on this game, but we still had a very entertaining match, and both teams should take credit for that. But my players deserve a lot of praise. They took on board the criticisms from last week and proved that they can compete. If you had said at the beginning of the season that we would be 10th in the table today, nobody would have believed it. Now even we have a chance of making the European places – that's an unexpected situation indeed.

Tom Starke:
I was touched by what the fans did for me and the support they give us really got to me. I was a little nervous at the beginning, but I tried to concentrate for the whole game. The first goal was my fault, there's no doubt about that. But we had lots of opportunities to get back into the game, especially in the first half. As for me personally, I'll stay here at Hoffenheim as long as that is possible.

Jannik Vestergaard:
“Our first-half performance was good, despite the fact we went in at the break a goal behind. We didn't do enough in the second half. We would have loved to win our last home game of the season, but unfortunately it wasn't to be.
