Ciao, Vedad!

His name is inextricably linked to the club's promotion to the Bundesliga. Vedad Ibisevic's 18 goals in the first 17 matches of the 2008-09 Bundesliga campaign sent the unfancied Sinsheim side to the top of the Bundesliga by Christmas, an amazing achievement for a newly promoted side. He has become a part of the club's history, scoring the 1st and 100th goal for TSG in the Bundesliga and leaves 1899 as their record scorer in Germany's top flight.

During the winter break in the 2008-09 season, journalists and experts alike were wondering whether Ibisevic would break the record set by the great Gerd Müller of 40 league goals in a single Bundesliga season. But then, tragedy struck Bosnian international. In a friendly game against Hamburger SV, Vedo suffered a cruciate knee ligament injury and was ruled out for the rest of the season, unable to add to his tally of 18 goals.

Three years later, he is one short of his 50th Bundesliga goal. But it won't be in the colours of 1899 Hoffenheim that he reaches that milestone. Yesterday, Ibisevic agreed a deal to sign for neighbouring VfB Stuttgart, citing the wish to embark upon a new challenge as his reason for seeking pastures new. “I've had a great time here at Hoffenheim. The club have always supported me. I'd like to thank Ralf Rangnick and Holger Stanislawski and I wish the team every success in the future”, said the departing Ibisevic.

Vedo scored 55 goals in 139 games for Hoffenheim, after signing from Alemannia Aachen in the summer 2007. 1899 wishes him the best of luck for this chapter in his career at VfB Stuttgart.
