Babel fined by DFB

TSG 1899 Hoffenheim forward Ryan Babel has been handed a fine in excess of €3,000 by the German Football Federation (DFB) disciplinary committee after his red card in the club's final league game of the season against Hertha BSC Berlin last weekend, a charge which the player has accepted.

Babel had used the social networking platform ‘Twitter' to criticise referee Thorsten Kinhöfer, describing the official as ‘on drugs' after he had been dismissed for violent conduct in the Olympic Stadium. The Dutchman has since deleted the tweet and issued an official apology for his actions. “I am sorry for the comments I made regarding Mr. Kinhöfer and I would like to take the opportunity to apologise. I did not intend to cause any offence, but my actions were thoughtless. I was very disappointed to have been shown a red card, which in my opinion was not justified, meaning I was unable to help my teammates.” Hoffenheim have said there will be no further action taken against Babel.
