Reaction against Cottbus

1899 Hoffenheim missed the chance to reach the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal for the first time in their history as they crashed out to lower league opposition Energie Cottbus. Here's what those involved had to say about the match:

Tom Starke: We didn't capitalise on our superiority in front of goal. We had the chance to get back into the match, but the difference is that they scored after one opportunity and we failed to after many. We're very disappointed. We were desperate to reach the next round, but without a goal we were never going to make it.

Marco Pezzaiuoli: In the first half we we're far to passive and lacked any sort of penetration going forward. We we're a lot more dominant in the second half and created chances for ourselves, but we lost our concentration at the vital moment and it cost us a goal and the match.

Andreas Beck: Of course we wanted to get into the semi-finals. Cottbus were a tricky and unpleasant opponent. Losing tonight is hard to accept. We had our chances and were active in our pursuit of the breakthrough, but when you don't score, you don't progress.

Thorsten Kirschbaum: We fully deserved our victory tonight. We have managed to get further in this competition by demonstrating a true fighting spirit from start to finish.
