Hoffenheim 2-1 FC Köln – Match Reaction

Hoffenheim edge out 1. FC Köln 2-1 in round two of the German Cup. What did the players and managers of the respective sides have to say about the game?

Holger Stanislawski: “Today was a typically competitive cup game. We didn't play with enough energy overall in the first half, but we ended up scoring the equaliser with our first bit of good play. We also made some bad mistakes defensively, but that can happen in cup games. We're relieved that we got the right result though.”

Stale Solbakken: “We played well this evening. I'm satisfied with our performance but not with the result, obviously. We had good chances to take a 2-0 lead, but we wasted them. We huffed and puffed a lot in the second half especially, but sadly it wasn't to be.”

Sven Schipplock: “We can be pleased with our performance. We spoke before the game about getting in behind them today, and that helped us cause them problems, especially for our first goal.”

Andreas Beck: “We know Köln are a good side and that it would be hard. But we're pleased with the win and want to go as far as possible in the competition”

Lukas Podolski: “We had a lot of opportunities in the first half where, with a better final pass, we could have made it 2-0 and really got a foothold in the game. But we did show the right reaction after the defeat at Dortmund, and that is important.”

Christian Eichner: “We couldn't get that second goal, and the timing of both goals that we conceded was unfortunate. Then it's always difficult to come back when you're away from home. Our final pass was lacking today, which was why we didn't create too many chances in the second half. We definitely showed a huge improvement from the Dortmund game, but it's always sad to be knocked out of the cup.”
