Season Review 2: A captain with a twist

Every captain steps onto the pitch to motivate, keep focus and direct his teammates. This definitely applies to Hoffenheim's captain Per Nilsson. However, his role in the team this year distinguishes the Swede from the other captains in the Bundesliga.

Part 2

The main difference is that Nilsson spent most of the season on the bench, the on-field leadership was provided by others in the team. Despite this, Nilsson took it upon himself to be responsible for the team even if he had to watch from the sidelines.

Per Nilsson will not be content with the outcome of this season, the 27-year old defensive stalwart simply didn't play enough football. However, he put the needs of the team before his own, keeping the morale in the dressing room up despite his feelings. When asking his teammates about their sympathetic Swedish rock not one person had a bad thing to say. It wasn't for nothing that he was chosen as the captain of this team. "Of course I want to play more, but I was chosen to be captain of this team, which is a great honour but also a great commitment, to always think about the team. This, fortunately, is not difficult for me though as I have always been a team player", proclaimed the captain with a twist, Per Nilsson.
