Rewind: Return of some old friends

It was the return of former 1899 captain Selim Teber. "A special match," as Teber said at the time.

Any friendships with old colleagues were quickly forgotten for the 90 minutes, however, as the two teams contested a close-fought draw. The main talking point of the match was the 9th-minute penalty won by Vedad Ibisevic following a challenge by Teber. Referee Florian Meyer pointed to the spot immediately and Sejad Salihovic needed no second invitation to convert from the spot. A relatively defensive encounter ensued until the break, with Demba Ba the first to try his luck three minutes before the interval, missing by inches from the angle.

In the second half there was far more attacking action. Obasi should have put Hoffenheim two up on 55 minutes but hesitate when through on goal. Six minutes later and Schwegler grabbed the equaliser for Frankfurt with a deflected long-range strike. Hoffenheim did their best to restore their advantage, going close twice and missing out on a second penalty after the referee oversaw Russ' handball. Still, Frankfurt gave as good as they got and deserved the point in the end.
