Eichner moves to 1. FC Köln

Defender Christian Eichner has put pen to paper on a deal taking him to 1. FC Köln on January 1st when the transfer window opens. 1899 Hoffenheim and the 28-year old came to an agreement after the defender had expressed his wish to leave the club despite his contract running until 30.6.2011.

"It was Christian's legitimate wish to move to a club that would offer him more first team opportunities. His openness, character and attitude were always an example to other players and his commitment was one of the reasons were didn't want to get in the way of his move to Köln. We of course send him off with our best wishes and hope he is successful in his future endeavours," said manager Ernst Tanner.

Eichner, had originally made the move to Hoffenheim from Karlsruher SC in July 2009, is excited for the new challenge that lies ahead: "Breaking into the 1. FC Köln set up will most definitely be a challenge, but it is one I'm looking forward to. I was always happy at 1899 especially seeing as I'm essentially a local boy and I consider this area home. Of course I also have a match against 1899 and a chance to see old faces to look forward to in the second half of the season."

Eichner made 29 Bundesliga appearances in total for 1899 Hoffenheim and managed to score the solitary goal during his time at the club. On top of that he also pulled on the kit 6 times in the DFB-Pokal.
