Chinedu Obasi: Making progress

Always smiling and in a good mood - even through the difficult times. Chinedu Obasi is remaining positive despite a difficult past year. Injury problems have plagued the Nigerian star, who has so much to offer in the 1899 Hoffenheim attack.

Creativity, pace, dynamism, the willingness to try something new - Obasi is a player who thoroughly enjoys himself out on the pitch. After picking up a bronze medal with the Super Eagles at this year's African Nations Cup, the Nigerian hitman was oozing confidence until a match against Hannover 96 on Matchday 21 brought more injury woe: this time an ankle injury sustained from an awkward fall after a challenge from Karim Haggui forcing the 23-year-old back onto the sidelines.

Almost six weeks have passed since then and Obasi has spent almost every day at the training ground in Zuzenhausen working on his recovery with rehabilitation coach Christof Elser. Though full training is still a while away, Obasi said that the pain is "improving day by day, but I can still feel it when we do sprint exercises where you have to change direction quickly." Elser, meanwhile, remains confident that the Nigerian is on course: "Chinedu has made good progress. We're trying to build the intensiveness on his ankle slowly." Hopefully it won't be too long before Obasi is back doing what he does best for 1899: scoring goals!
